Over the years WCCYM youthworkers, paid and voluntary, have worked with hundreds of young people irrespective of their faith, cultural or social background: one2one, in small groups, in local churches, in youth services, through sport, through music and drama, in schools, on residentials. We have also had the privilege of assisting in training and developing youthworkers in association with organisations such as YMCA, CYM (Centre for Youth Ministry) at Ridley Hall, ICY (International Christian Youthworks), and Christians in Sport, as well as through our own ‘in-house’ development.
As we look towards the future, the need for Christian youth work is as strong as it’s ever been. The on-going development of Cambourne, the additional housing being built in Papworth, Caldecote, and other villages, plus the projected housing requirements for south Cambridgeshire mean that the numbers of young people in this area will increase over the coming years. By 2010, the numbers of young people in the current WCCYM area will be about double what they were in 2000. WCCYM is uniquely positioned to respond linking young people, local communities, and local churches.
We're looking for a trainee youthworker to join us from September 2007. The person will be placed with Hardwick Evangelical Church (one of our partner churches) for their local church placement, as well as being an active part of the wider WCCYM team. We encourage the person to follow relevant training - though the trainee will need to apply successfully to whichever course they wish to attend. We provide board & lodging plus expenses and 'pocket money'. You will need to pay course fees. Interested in finding out more? Contact Steve (WCCYM Team Leader) or Susie (current youthworker at Hardwick Evangelical Church)

We are committed to
building teams of youthworkers who actively support each other and work
together spiritually and physically, supporting and encouraging each other in
the small groun work and working together in larger scale events across
villages and churches.
One of WCCYM’s strengths has been its commitment to building good relationships not
only between youthworkers and young people, but also between youthworkers both
within churches and across churches. Doing youthwork can be highly rewarding, but it can also be spiritually,
emotionally and physically exhausting at times. We are therefore building a
network of volunteer, trainee and paid youthworkers who can together do things
that they could never achieve individually.
