A Policy Statement on Children, Young People and West Cambridge Christian Youth Ministries:
- As Christians we are concerned with the wholeness of each individual within God’s purpose for everyone.
- As members of the above named organisation (hereafter referred to as WCCYM) we commit ourselves to the nurturing, protection and safekeeping of all, especially children and young people. Therefore, we should at all times value the gift of children and young people, conducting ourselves in a manner worthy of Jesus.
- We believe that children and young people are part of the Church today and as such are the responsibility of the whole church. They have much to give as well as receive. We will accept them and listen to them, respecting their wishes and feelings.
- WCCYM is committed to supporting, supervising, monitoring and training those who work with children and young people. Therefore, no-one will be expected to work with children or young people alone or unsupported.
- WCCYM will use available resources to develop safe, wise and quality work with children and young people, ensuring that:
- Children and young people are safe
- The premises where activities take place are suitable and insured for the work
- Any equipment used is appropriate
- Anyone working with children and young people is adequately trained and supported
- WCCYM will ensure that those who work with children and young people, and those in whom these children and young people put their trust, know how to handle a situation where a child or young person is considered to be at risk through abuse or neglect.
- As a part of our commitment to children and young people, WCCYM recognises a named Team Leader of Work with Children and Young People, together with an independent named Designated Person for Child Protection Issues, who shall be called the Child Protection Co-ordinator.
- As an organisation we recognise the ”duty of care” placed on us by the principles of the Children Act 1989.
- Each person who works with children and young people in whatever capacity must know and understand the “Good Practice Guidelines” and undertake to observe them.
